When is the best time to book my newborn photos?
The best time to book is before baby arrives! I suggest contacting me while still pregnant to ensure there is a spot available! Typically I am booking 3-4 months in advance.
What is the best age to photograph my newborn?
The best age to photograph a newborn is between 5-14 days following birth. During this time frame babies are more likely to sleep soundly when being re positioned, and they still have that beautiful baby “curl” we all love to see in photos!
What if my baby is older than 14 days and I want to book a session?
If your little one was born premature, we can often stretch this window of time later than if your baby was born at full gestation. If your baby was not born premature, but is over 14 days old please contact me and we can discuss if newborn portrait photography is a good fit for you and your baby. Babies over the age of two weeks have more awake time, wake much easier when being repositioned, and generally don’t sleep as soundly as their “younger” counterparts.
What happens once I decide to book a session?
Once you have decided to book a newborn portrait session, the session fee is required to secure your booking. At that time, I will add you to my schedule approximately 7 days post your due date. Once baby arrives, I ask that you contact me as soon as you are able so we can work together to find a day that works for you between that 5-14 day window.
Where does the session take place?
All newborn sessions take place in my beautiful home studio just outside of Drayton, ON. This space has been optimized particularly for newborn sessions, and allows me the best light and warm environment in which to pose these little ones.
How long is a newborn session?
Depending on which session you choose to book, a typical session lasts anywhere from 1-4 hours. Newborn Mini Sessions last 1-1.5 hours with Full Newborn Sessions lasting on average 3 hours. It all depends on your baby! I work with each individual baby, sleepy or awake!
Can I book an evening session?
I am a natural light photographer – which means I utilize the available light during the day within my studio. I schedule all sessions to fall within when the light is best in my studio. Sessions begin at 10 am and I do not offer evening sessions (since in the evening my studio is pretty much like a cave!). In addition, spend ANY time with a newborn and you’ll quickly discover the dreaded “witching hours” – a newborns fussy time, typically starting around 4 pm and lasting well into the evening!
I have older children who I would like photographed with my newborn. Can you accommodate this?
Yes! I ask that if you wish to have siblings photographed with your newborn, that you let me know PRIOR to the session. These photos are done at the beginning of the session, and someone must be available to take your child/children home following these photos. Children do not tolerate the heat and length of a newborn session, and often become a distraction in the studio. Please keep in mind that although I will attempt sibling poses, this is not the focus of a newborn session. Please do not set expectations high for young children, as they often have difficulty following direction and are uncomfortable holding their new sibling.
I saw this really cool photo on Pinterest and I’d like you to photograph my newborn that way! Can you?
Newborns are perfect – just as they are, and I choose to highlight their natural beauty in the images I capture. I don’t use a lot of over the top props, as I feel that this distracts from the perfectness that is your new little one! If you have something that means a lot to you that you would like your newborn photographed with, please bring it and we will work it in.
How soon will I be able to see my photos?
I aim for a turn around time of 2-3 weeks. Once I have gone through all your images, you will receive an e-mail from me giving you access to a password protected online gallery. You are free to share this password with family and friends so they may also view your photos! This gallery will stay active for THREE days. All selections must be made within this time frame. Once your have made your selections, I will personally edit those photos. If you have purchased the high resolution digital files, these will also be available at this time. I do post a couple of sneak peeks on my Facebook page, as well as here on my website
Do you sell the digital negatives?
Yes! All three of my packages include high-resolution digital files for you to keep forever and are presented on a beautiful wooden USB.
Can I print the photos I receive on my USB?
Yes you can! If you have chosen to purchase the high resolution digital images, you are free to print these photos for personal use only. These images are not watermarked. I highly recommend ordering your prints through me, or using a professional printing lab to print your photos as I cannot guarantee the quality of your photos if printed elsewhere.
